How to Increase Your Ultrasound Tech Salary

As we all know, job opportunities trending for ultrasound technicians are increasing. Doctors and patients have been embracing the importance and essentials of diagnostic examinations which play a big role in identifying health problems. The increasing use of diagnostic examinations together with the new diagnostic equipments, aided the increase of job opportunities for radiation technology graduates. You can actually choose to take courses with accredited programs that offer either an associate degree for 2 years or a bachelor degree for 4 years. If you are looking forward to get higher salary rates, then go for a bachelor degree.

An average ultrasound technician salary of graduates with associate degree would be around $20 per hour depending on the state. A basic $60,000 annual salary with health benefits is already a great opportunity and pay to support your families. How much more if you choose to go for a bachelor’s degree of four years? Surely, you can get as much as an hourly rate of $25-$30 with health benefits. This will make you stable enough to provide basic needs for your family. Career and salary does not stop right there, you can actually increase your pay by getting continuous education and training certifications with American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers.

You can register by two things. First option, you can take programs accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Another option is to attend a program without an accreditation with the said associations but undergo a one year of work-study in the clinical diagnostic setting in support of the Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS). Whatever options you would like to take, one thing is for sure, it can increase your hourly pay rate from $30 to $40 per hour.
