Grocery Tips For a More Fruitful Life

I shop only once a week and only get what is on the list. Since I have been doing this I have been saving about $100 a week. Eat a good meal first, and you’ll be more likely to stick to your list. Go to the grocery store with a list and stick with it, and you will be able to get all of your groceries for a week in one trip. The fewer trips you make, the less you will spend overall.

I order the list according to the route I take through the grocery store I frequent. When I first started shopping with coupons, I would spend about four hours a week preparing my list and gathering my coupons. Now though, I can do it in less than an hour and get the same savings. If I purchase items other than what is on my list I write it on my list first and then cross it off, just like I would any other item. I also ask myself if we really need it or if it’s a treat.

Break each meal into the ingredients required to prepare it and use these items to create your grocery list. By following planned menus, you save the money often spent on impulsive purchases and the money wasted by purchasing ingredients you never get around to cooking. I always plan my meals and shop with a list. I usually allow myself 1 impulse buy (favorite impulse buy tapioca pudding). Add the savings from other things you buy there and you will save more than doing ALL the things on this list.

Items that you could list on your chart might be milk, bread, flour, sugar, or pasta. When you go to a store all you need to do is whip out your Cost Comparison cheat sheet and write down the store you are at, what item you are comparing, the amount that is within the item (ounce, pounds, gallons, etc.), and the current price. Make a shopping list as your child sits with you. Name each item you need out loud and then write it down. In tandem with a strict grocery list this is a good contributor to Cheap Eats. Set an amount of X dollars that needs to be followed and you’ll find yourself putting things back on the shelf in order to meet that amount.

For that reason, the sample grocery list is based on a $50 budget. Supermarkets want to take advantage of people buying things they did not intend to purchase, so be a smart shopper and use a shopping list. This doesn’t require a calculator; it just requires a quick glance at the shelf labels, which list the unit price for you.

The list is endless of items that many of us eat or drink by habit. While doing without all the fun foods and drinks would make life a bit boring, cutting back from what may have become unnecessarily high levels of consumption will save a considerable amount. Fats are listed as “Total Fat” and also broken down so you can see how much is unhealthy saturated fat and trans fat. Use a shopping list and stick to it. Plan a menu and take stock of what items you need.
