Pregnancy Trimesters – What to Expect
Life is a beautiful thing! People might differ in their views about why we are on this planet, if there is a God, or if the planet is here simply by chance. However, there is one thing people around the world mostly agree upon, and that is that having a baby is one of the most magnificent experiences a couple can experience.
There used to be a time when giving birth was one of the bravest endeavors a person could undergo, as birth-related deaths were about 1 in 4. This meant that either the mother or the child would die in 25% of all pregnancies and labors . These days giving birth is quite safe, but that doesn’t mean that pregnancy is a walk in the park. The three trimesters all have their set of symptoms that for some women can be quite uncomfortable.
The first trimester of pregnancy starts at conception, and lasts until the 13th week. We have all heard of the dreaded morning sickness symptoms that women have, and these are usually confined to the first trimester. Actually, the term “morning sickness” is actually a bit of a positive misnomer, because the nausea symptoms can be experienced any time during the day or night. There are also other common symptoms during this period, as the body starts preparing for the big changes that wait in the coming months. Cramping is quite common, as the uterus prepares for the coming growth by stretching the surrounding ligaments and muscles. You can also expect to have tender and numb breasts, as glands and ducts start to develop their breastfeeding attributes.
As women enter their second trimester they are often filled with energy, as the worst of the previous symptoms start to fade. Morning sickness should now be a thing of the past, and perhaps now is the time to get a work out regime in place, and even a proper diet. Dieting in this context means to get the proper nourishment for you and your baby. Look at what you eat and see if there are classes of food that can be removed and replaced with vegetable, vitamins, and other healthy nutrients.
There is no doubt that the third trimester is the most challenging. The baby is now a couple of pounds, and you can really feel the extra weight. Simply walking around might leave you short of breath, and sleeping at night might become difficult. Take the time to get as much rest as possible, because you will need it, both to make up for the lack of sleep at night, and also in preparation for giving birth.
