If you are pregnant, then you want nothing more than to keep the baby safe and healthy. This is why eating healthy for pregnancy is important. You want to make sure the baby and you get all of the nutrients you need in order to have a strong, healthy baby. Having a healthy, well balanced diet is the smartest thing you can do for yourself and the baby you are carrying.

When you are on your first trimester, if you find it hard to maintain that diet full of nutrition, then you are not alone. Due to nausea, some women will consume food all the time and gain weight. Others find it hard to get food in their system and keep it down. During your first trimester, getting past dehydration and starvation is the most critical factors.

What about calorie? Fact: When you are pregnant, you will need to consume three hundred more calories than you normally would every day. If your body tells you that you are hungry, then you probably are. Try consuming as many foods as you possibly can from the bottom of the pyramid. Remember to always eat when you are hungry. Instead of eating for one, you are now eating for two.

As for calcium, by your second trimester, your body will need to get 1,500 mg of calcium each day. This is not only for your bones, but for the baby as well. This is more than one quart of milk. Many miss out on calcium. Besides milk, some other good sources for calcium are calcium fortified juices, calcium pills and dairy foods.

Fiber is also important. It can help stop your stools from being so hard. Hard stools is common during pregnancy. You can get fiber from fruits, vegetables and whole grains. There are some supplements that are safe to take when you are pregnancy. Just ask your doctor before taking them.
