Breast Cancer Stopping Vegetable
Breast cancer is a horrific disease and maybe even more so the treatments. So I feel it is very important to practice as many safe and preventative measures as is reasonable to reduce your risk of contracting the disease in the first place. I am interested in all cancers but breast cancer in particular as I have several people close to me that have come down with it. They all went through standard treatments which in retrospect, was the worse part and in the end, they all still died. That is why I am always on the lookout for any measures that are safe, nontoxic, affordable and easy to implement.
Seems a cancer researcher in the U.K., Professor Graham Packham, teamed up with dietitian Barbara Parry at the Winchester and Adover Breast Unit, and did a study( i,ii ) of a dozen women with breast cancer. Apparently they were fed a daily amount of watercress and by the end of the study the cancer cells progression had been stopped. It is a well known fact that cancers send out signals that promote more blood vessel growth in the area to feed they ever increasing need for blood. As it turns out a compound in watercress phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) is able to block the vessel building signals and the breast cancer tumors are literally starved.
Even though this is one small study, all the women got the same results and it has been peer reviewed and published in the British Journal of Nutrition and Biochemical Pharmacology, which makes it very credible. The recommended dosage is 80 grams per day, or about the amount that would fill a small breakfast bowl and it stopped all the breast cancer tumor growth. What I love about stuff like this is whats not to love? I mean it is non-toxic, no side effects, and incredibly inexpensive. And talk about convenient, I mean who can’t find this stuff at almost any local grocery store and then find a way to eat at least a small cereal bowl of it a day to help prevent breast cancer (or any cancer for that matter) or its further development.
Obviously it is excellent in salads, but it can make a great garnish, a tasty side dish or be juiced. There are many strategies and other things that can be done to help prevent breast cancer, but this one seemed especially easy to implement so I wanted to share with you right away. The beauty of this is when you do something which improves the health of your internal environment, you don’t just target one specific disease, like breast cancer, to some degree, you improve your ability to prevent almost any disease.
And what’s not to like about that?
