Facing Up – The Inner Workings of Acne

“Son, your skin problem is a very common thing. There’s no need for you to worry too much about it. I’d say the acne problem that you are facing is caused by a sudden surge of hormones. You see, you’re growing up now, and…”

As the doctor was trying his best to explain to me how the skin disorder happened, I paid little attention. I was thinking if it was at all possible for me to get rid of these stubborn zits and get my clear skin back. In this world, only three things are one hundred percent guaranteed and these are death, taxes and acne. All of us are prone to getting some zits and blemishes on our face at any point of our lives. It is universal and not prejudiced. You are not alone in your journey to achieve a clear skin, my friend. Many others hope to achieve an acne-free skin too. Along the way, you will learn that acne is a very treatable condition and there are plenty of options available to you.

Acne is the most common skin disease in the whole wide world. Blemishes, zits, pimples, whiteheads, bumps, and so on are what we know as acne. It is universal. Everyone is prone to the skin disorder. Everyone is liable in this case. More than eighty percent of all the young people in the world will face at least a flare up of acne. Young adults and teenagers are more prone to the skin disorder due to the sudden surge of hormones that is associated with growth.

The whole thing starts in the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. The exact cause is pretty much unknown, although we do know that the skin disorder is linked up with a lot of factors. Acne is a problem of clogged hair follicles as a result of a series of actions taken by the sebaceous glands. These glands are attached to the hair follicles and produce oil, or sebum. The dead skin cells mix up with the sebum and other impurities and finally form a sticky mixture that is going to block the pore.

When the bacteria starts infecting the pore due to the fatty substance, this infected pore more often than not becomes inflamed. This is roughly how acne gets formed underneath our skin. Of course it’s not as simple as it might look. Other factors include poor immune system, fluctuating hormone levels and stress.
